Rodeo Lagoon Community Center
The central idea behind this hostel revolves around the integration of environmental factors and historical context. Positioned at the crossroads of hillsides and the ocean, the site holds a unique location on the grounds of the abandoned military base, Fort Cronkhite.
To emphasize the transition from hillside to ocean, a continuous corridor spans the building, offering visitors views of both the ocean and the hills. This architectural feature serves as a seamless connection between the contrasting environments.
Moreover, the transition from the abandoned military base to nature is highlighted through the partially exposed framing of the structure. This intentional design choice aims to visually convey the natural process of deterioration over time, showcasing how nature gradually reclaims its space. The hostel becomes a living testament to the symbiotic relationship between architecture and the environment, capturing the essence of the historical and natural elements coexisting at this distinctive intersection.
